Description - Melco S100 Japan switch 8xLAN RJ45 / 2xLAN SFP optical
Recommendation:
Unlike most of the competition that pretends to be an audiophile switch, but so far is just a facelifted PC switch, this company built it from the start as a true switch for the high end audio product class. Not only does it offer a total of 8LAN RJ45 ports, but also, and this is what's really hifi about this switch, two SFP optical ports. Which is the grave for any digital audio signal. Optics does NOT carry noise..... and that's the magic! If you have only a classic RJ45 in your streamer you can buy for a few crowns a Media converter e.g. TP-link MC220L and plug the SFP cable in there and then any cable with RJ45 socket from it......and the magic is done!!!
Another advantage of SFP optical transmission is that the cable can be up to 252 meters long! so it can be stretched across the whole apartment, house without ruining your wallet and the fiber optic cable doesn't catch any ballast on the way, unlike the classic RJ45. If you need help with this solution, write I'll be happy to help design a functional and inexpensive suspension!

Melco Syncrets Inc. was newly founded in April 2016 as a subsidiary of Melco Holdings Inc. - owning the most famous and largest computer peripherals manufacturer "Buffalo Inc." in Japan. In February 2014, Buffalo Inc. launched the Audiophile NAS project, which introduced the world's first audiophile source component for accessing, storing and distributing high-resolution (Hi-Res) digital music without the compromises applicable to computers and their peripherals. Then in November 2014, the MELCO N1 product line debuted in the United Kingdom to penetrate the audio accessory market, Melco Syncrets Inc. became an independent company that inherited the Melco Audiophile NAS project from Buffalo Inc. in 2016. The 1st generation N1Z and N1A series achieved great success and turned the NAS into a true "music library". Thus, the MELCO N1 series is both a music storage and a server for easy UPnP connectivity and is also a USB-DAC source. MELCO N1 series products are internationally recognized by Hi-Fi magazine journalists.
The second-generation S100/2 data switcher creates an ideal low-noise environment for running networked music libraries to help ensure the best possible audio performance.
Compared to a conventional IT data switcher, the S100/2 offers an exceptional architecture with two 100 Mb RJ45 ports for the best audio quality and six 1 Gb ports for connection to PCs and other high bandwidth devices such as the Roon Core processor. The second generation S100/2 also gains an improved power circuit board with a carefully selected network adapter.
Features:
Two SFP ports for compatible fiber optic components such as Lumin
1.5 MB buffer for stable and reliable data
Enhanced power circuit board and audiophile power supply implementation with a bank of audio quality capacitors to ensure lowest noise.
Power supplies are external to the switcher, providing good isolation and allowing for future upgrades.
Mechanical stability contributes to system performance: the S100/2 is built on a solid steel chassis.
